Adium does not store chat logs

Postby D-u-k-e » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:15 am

Hello,

I just signed up for this forum because I have a big problem that needs to be solved.
Since a few weeks my Adium does not store chat logs anymore, although I have activated storing of logs (see image).

I`m using Adium version 1.3.10
The weird thing is that it seems to be random. For some of my friends the chat log still works and for some not.
Has anyone faced this problem before or have an idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Have you tried troubleshooting your preferences?

Hi Robby,

thanks for the hint. This was a good solution to fix my storing problem but I am not able to get my old logfiles back :-(
My way of proceeding is like they explained in the Adium help (see below). As soon as I put some of the message logfiles back in the Adium 2.0/User/Default/Log-folder it stops saving the message history. Can you explain why it is like that?

Where does Adium save preferences?
Adium's preferences are located at ~/Library/Application Support/Aduim 2.0

The preferences are stored in the "Users" folder, under "Default"
Other folders in the "Adium 2.0" folder contain your installed AdiumXtras.
There is also a preference file at: ~/Library/Preferences/com.adiumX.adiumX.plist

Troubleshooting Preferences
If you believe that corrupt or oddly configured preferences may be causing problems in Adium, the quickest way to rule out these issues is by temporarily creating a new set of preferences and checking if the problem still persists.

Quit Adium
Rename the "Adium 2.0" folder to "Adium 2.0-old".
Rename the "com.adiumX.adiumX.plist" to "com.adiumX.adiumX-old.plist".
Relaunch Adium. Check if your problems persist.
If that doesn't work, then you want to revert to your previous preferences.

Quit Adium
Delete the new "Adium 2.0" folder that Adium created.
Rename your "Adium 2.0-old" folder back to "Adium 2.0"

Sorry for not getting back to you!

Have you checked permissions? Lacking permissions could be the reason why logs are not saved.

You could give the following a try:
    1. Get Info on this folder: Your Home Folder/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0
    2. Make sure the “Sharing & Permissions” pane is expanded.
    3. From the action menu at the bottom, choose “Make ‘your username here* (Me)’ the owner”.
    4. Make sure the permissions for the owner (who should now be identified as “your username here* (Me)” in the list) are set to “Read & Write”.
    5. Click the padlock and enter an administrator user's username and password.
    6. From the action menu, choose “Apply to enclosed items…”. Click OK.

That should restore your ability to save changes in that folder.
