growl causes apple mail crash

Postby rjk117 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 8:36 pm

Growl continues to crash Apple Mail since lastest software update in mid June. As a result I had to deactivate Growl.

No, it doesn't. Growl (the prefpane and application) are completely separate from Mail; they do not affect it and do not cause it to crash.

GrowlMail, because it runs as part of Mail, can cause Mail to crash.

No, you didn't. You may have had to deactivate or uninstall GrowlMail, but deactivating or uninstalling Growl would not solve the problem.

Please post the crash log from Mail. It's in this folder:

  • Your Home folder
    • Library
      • Logs
        • CrashReporter

(If you don't see a CrashReporter folder or a Mail crash log within it, you're probably within the wrong Library. There are two.)

You'll need to zip up the crash log to post it here. We can't diagnose your crash without it.

kaptnneo: Update to GrowlMail 1.1.5 or later.

Remember, you need to update GrowlMail specifically. Installing Growl does not also install the Extras, whether you've installed them before or not.

Thank you boredzo. I didn't realize that you have to manually update the optional growl mail as well. I already had growl updated to the latest version but didn't do the optional growl mail update. Now everything seems to be behaving with the mail application.
