I haven't noticed any posts about folks using VB for prowling themselves alerts. We use a server monitoring tool which allows us to run custom scripts at specified events. The software package (PA SERVER MONITOR) passes on some nice variables you can see below. You can modify this to work with any application, though:
I'm not a pro coder, so if anyone can make this prettier, let me know. Works for me though. You'll need curl, in the directory sepcified below.
alertText = "Computer: " & Machine & " Type: " & MonitorType & " Title: " & MonitorTitle & " Info: " & Details
vUrl = ("""https://188.8.131.52/publicapi/add?apikey=<APIKEYHERE>&application=ServerMonitor&event=&description=" & alertText & "&priority=%d""")
utfUrl= replace (vURL," ","%20")
vFinalUrl = ("c:\curl\curl.exe -k " & utfUrl)
Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
I also use Prowl with Curl in GBPVR. It lets you run batch files before or after TV recordings and will pass on some nice variables. I get a little alert when certain shows have finished recording. Nice.
An iPhone client for Growl available on the App Store.
