A52Codec, do I need it?

Postby sime » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:06 am

I'm little bit confused with this. Do I need the A52Codec or not with Perian? It is for AC3 sound within AVI files, right?

Try without, and if your video doesn't play sound, then try with.

yes you do need it http://trac.cod3r.com/a52codec/ for anyone reading this thread. Could this not be included in perian? Thanks for the great work guys VLC is getting closer to the bin all the time.

a25 codec included in Perian 1.0 ?

Postby MajorTomGC » Sat Jun 30, 2007 3:35 am

This topic was posted before the release of Perian 1.0 i believe... So could somebody please confirm if the a52codec is required at all with Perian 1.0 installed ? The release notes say that it is integrated into 1.0 but since the 'obsoleted codecs' section of the site no longer seems to be there i was hoping somebody could clarify this for me.

Thanks

Scott

Perian 1.0 installs the latest A52Codec, so the answer is still yes.

I dont understand your answer... could you explain please ?

If Perian now installs the A52Codec as you say then why would i still need to download it separately ?

I thought you were asking if you could remove it. You still need it in the sense don't remove it, but Perian also installs it so you don't need to download it. That clear things up?

I think i understand you now gbooker. Your saying that the A52Codec isn't included 'inside' the Perian codec itself but is actually installed along with Perian, yes ? and this is why i should not try to remove it ?

Im sorry for the confusion but i just want to know if Perian 1.0 'obsoletes' the official A52Codec ? lol

Thanks
