Update Error when starting Mac OS X

Postby ktvyeow » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:54 am

Hey guys,

I just installed Perian 1.0 and I'm currently running 10.4.10. Everytime I boot up I seem to get an Update Error message that says "An error occurred while trying to load Perian's version info. Please try again later." Anyone know what's wrong and how I can get rid of it?

Here's a screenshot of it.

You're not the only one, I'm getting the same error message every time I try to access any file that would be opened with any QuickTime component or app including iTunes, Final Cut, TubeTV, QuickTime Player and iMovie. Even the Finder. Just touch a flash video or H.264 file and BAM! "Update error... Please try again later."

Later,
JC Hayes

I have a feeling that Perian is trying to check for updates each time it is loaded. Since it's a Quicktime plugin, it gets loaded every time Quicktime is loaded, so it checks for updates every time Quicktime gets loaded.

Easy way to check, uncheck the check for updates bit in the prefpane.

Also, someone had this in the irc channel, they updated to 10.4.10, and things resolved themselves You should try that if you are not on 10.4.10
