Very slow performance for feed with Chinese characters

Postby jeff_johnson_dev » Sat May 27, 2006 5:17 pm

This feed loads extremely slowly for me, apparently due to the presence of Chinese text:

Does anyone else experience this?

It's a little sluggish but not noticably bad on my 800Mhz PB. There are just a few articles with the Chinese characters and they all render correctly.

Ok, now I understand what was happening. -[NSMutableAttributedString fixFontAttributeInRange:] was getting called because my article list font, Helvetica, didn't contain the characters.

It was more of a problem for me, because I had a month's worth of articles in the list. I was getting long delays and sometimes beachballs when selecting articles or scrolling the list. I switched the article list font to Hei, and all the delays disappeared.
