Feature request: run videos when you switch tabs

Postby randian » Sun Jan 31, 2010 4:35 am

If you're in Safari, and you have a Flash or HTML5 video running in Tab A, and switch to Tab B, the video keeps running. You can only hear the audio, obviously. If you do the same in Vienna, the video is automatically stopped and must be restarted from the beginning. I haven't tested audio like MP3, but it probably exhibits the same behavior. Having Vienna work like Safari would be a nice improvement.

Yeah, I really want this one myself. I'm not yet sure what's the best way to accomplish it in Vienna, but it would be a huge improvement.

Thanks for the tip Jeff! I have checked a change into SVN that should take care of that issue. I just wonder if it's OK to just use the mainWindow for all of them, or if it's smarter to create a dummy window for each one...

It appears to be ok to use the same window.

The 1507 build is available: http://vienna.mpaka.com.

So anyone can check to see if it works correctly.

Oops, found a problem with the beta. If the video is playing in the main Articles tab, tabbing away from it causes the video to stop. If the video is playing in another tab, moving to any other tab or the Articles tab doesn't affect playback.

That's strange - I'll look into that.
