Direct Connecting Images

So, back in the day when I used Adium at college, I could never successfully direct connect with anyone (sending files, images, anything). I assumed there was just something weird with my computer and my installation of Adium, and I kind of gave up.

But now, at my new job (note: work computer, pre installed Adium, etc.), it STILL happens. Others at my company with the same equipment can do it fine. So I'm thinking it might be just some deficiency in my typing fingers, or something... I'm going to describe my process of sending images to people (which afaik is what everyone else does and it works perfect). Am I doing something wrong?

Step 1: Find the image I want.
Step 2: Drag the image into the typing box.
Step 3: Press enter.

It shows up in the chat for me, but the recipient never sees anything.

Is there some hidden preference that I might have switched? Help! Happy to give more information if necessary.

I'm only using an AIM account (also, an AIM account I created fresh for my new job, so there's no connection to the prior account that also couldn't send files.)

I'm having the opposite problem. I've used the direct connect feature for years. I just moved to a new state and can't get it to work at all. It's quite a part of my daily routine and I'm at a loss for what could have changed. I use the same computer I always have.

Anyone know what could have happened? ISP?
