Tighter Facebook Integration

Postby VxJasonxV » Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:55 pm

It's always a bummer when I drag an image into an Adium chat window habitually, I see an image, and the user on the other end simply sees a filename.

I don't know if Facebook's XMPP server is even proficient even to handle this, especially given that when a user uploads a file/image it says <1 attachment> and links me to the messages page in order to view it, despite the fact that XMPP is completely capable of rich media transfer.

Can it be done?
Will it be done?

Facebook's XMPP API doesn't allow for file transfer.

Well.

Lame.

Funny how one of the worst, feature incomplete IM services is the only one I use anymore.

Yeah, agreed. The trend with instant messaging services is quite unfortunate. Skype has also become very popular and hardly any third-party client can properly support it.

Best/Worst is relative. I stopped using IM services when I didn't have a computer of my own for a period of time, and this was pre-smartphones as they currently exist. I used Meebo for a while, but the interface just started getting on my nerves. (Pre-Trillian as a service too.)

I went back for a while with the advent of Beejive (iPhone), IM+, etc. But Facebook won for me because of the sheer number of people that use it, and the identity problem. I won't lie, it's real nice having my friend's actual names in my list (and I don't have to constantly manage their aliases from system to system).
