Re: Upgraded to Lion and now Perian doesn't work

ponyloky, if you followed the directions on removing obsolete/buggy components properly, then you are having an issue that's specific to yourself. Perhaps it is limited to a specific file, in which case no one can do anything without a sample of this file. I have numerous MKVs with AC3 audio, and no...

Re: OS X 10.7: Perian doesn't load subtitles in Quicktime X

ilmaio wrote:MrVacBob why you say that it can't be resolved?

QuickTime Player X has a regression: It cannot open files with more than one video track. Therefore, movie files with more than one video track (subtitles are a video track) will not open in it.

Anyone who has ever seen this question asked knows quite well that we never have, nor ever will give a timetable on any release. The only answer we have, or will ever give is "when it's ready."

Re: Perian, MKV, MPEG2 = yuck

I was clarifying why Apple's MPEG2 component does not play the audio. It's not that it cannot cope with muxed media, it's that it ignores all but a a select list of tracks. AC3 is not a track type it accepts, and so it skips that track.

QuickTime's concept of what subtitles are is far too limited to be worth any examination.

That's because Apple's MPEG2 component ignores AC3 audio and just skips it.

Re: Codec security updates

Applications and codecs are entirely different things when it comes to security vulnerabilities. Finding a vulnerability in an application is easier given it's requirement for a more diverse code base and libraries, as well is formulating an attack vector. By it's nature, VLC, or any application, is...

Perian does not interact with the hardware at a level to be causing what you saw. At best, it would be using something which contains the real bug.

Re: AVI no sound problem

AAC audio.
Plays perfectly on my computer: Mac OS 10.6.7 (yes I know that 10.6.8 is out; I'm lazy), SVN build of Perian
Fails to play on Perian 1.2.2.

So, problem exists, and is already fixed for next version.

Re: AVI no sound problem

Can I send you a sample of the video by PM ? I may not be the one that gets around to looking at it, so it should not be a PM. For camcorders in the past, users have done something like record a yard for a few seconds while talking or something equally mundane. You can upload a segment to mediafire...

Re: AVI no sound problem

First, it's X not 10.
Second, there is nothing we can do without information such as what codec is used for the audio or a sample of the file.
Third, most cases this is due to someone not removing other codecs as stated in http://www.perian.org/#support

Re: FRAPS black levels crushed

It's a colorspace issue. It seem that fraps likes to output full range YCbCr instead of a Lumma that ranges from 16-235. Ticket http://trac.perian.org/ticket/566 has more technical information on this issue.

Re: No audio from ADPCM codec.

Ok, I tried playing the file both in QT Player (with Perian and Flip4Mac installed only; no divx) and in VLC. Both play the audio perfectly fine. I would recommend removing the divx decoder component as it has directly caused many problems and Perian completely supplants it's functionality. I find i...

From your description, Perian isn't being used in any of these circumstances.

We typically recommend mediafire for uploading, but any easy-to-access URL will do (some hosting companies are not easy to access).

That'd work. Note, it doesn't have to be large/long, just enough to exhibit the problem.
