Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?

That is good to hear. For what it's worth, if you want to beat the competition, you might want to think about integrating it with Tasker. I don't know how it works, but there's an email app that can trigger Tasker based on who sent the mail, the mail body etc. It would be beyond great if aProwl (or ...

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?

Still working on it? I just discovered Notify My Android and noticed it's a straight rip off of Prowl. I'd rather change to Prowl out of principle if it becomes available.

Re: Any Plans for Blackberry or Android?

Prowl is the only thing I've missed since jumping ship to the Nexus One. But the latest Android update which came out in the last few days appears to support a push-like "Android Cloud to Device Messaging Framework" http://code.google.com/android/c2dm/ I'd love to see Prowl in the Android ...

Re: what are people doing with custom notifications?

I use Prowl like that a lot too. Luckily, in Linux (KDE anyway), highlighting something automatically copies it and there is a command line program to interface with the clipboard called xclip, so even a dummy like me can do this with minimal effort. This sends the last thing copied on the computer ...

Re: what are people doing with custom notifications?

Glad someone found a use for them. There is actually a links browser. I think it has more features and is faster than lynx, but 99% of my use is for the dump option and links is usually a little cleaner, so that's the only reason I use it. Of course, the output doesn't mater for that script so anyth...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

I googled ddwrt and see that it's a linux based router. If you have access to a shell on it, you can run a script like this (kill the gmail script first): #! /bin/sh while `true` do /path/to/gmailscript echo "crashed `date`" >> /path/to/log done It's an infinite loop and putting the gmail ...

Re: Using Prowl notification to run a script on your phone

I did find a use for this trick. I use the Vuze (formerly Azereus) torrent client. It has a plugin for controlling it through the web and another plugin (iZureus) to format the control page for the iPhone. You could bookmark http://YOUR-IP:6886 in Safari but I try not to have to remember my home IP ...

Using Prowl notification to run a script on your phone

This is officially nerdy. I'm not sure I will even have a use for it, but it's cool enough I had to try it. I have several BASH shell scripts which I run from an icon on SpringBoard (I'll show you how) and after reading cjduckk's post about editing the GV Mobile and Prowl plist files to launch GV wi...

Re: what are people doing with custom notifications?

Here are a couple simple scripts for the BASH shell on Linux that I use in five different ways. Maybe they will be handy for someone else. Pipe to Prowl #! /bin/sh message=$(< /dev/stdin) curl -k https://prowl.weks.net/publicapi/add -F apikey=XXX -F application="ipipe" -F description="...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

I noticed problems with large emails. I didn't have anything to email as a test, so I copied some text and edited it down to 10k characters and emailed it to myself but never got a notification. I edited it down to 5k and got that notification, then tried 8 or 9k and didn't get it, so there's a secr...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

Only the first line or so shows up in the notification, the rest of the 10000 characters can be viewed in the Prowl app. 10000 should be enough for most mail. Before this post, this entire thread including names, dates and subjects is just 9918. If an email was more than 10k and got cut off, I'd jus...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

Maybe it does crash, I dunno. I put it in a while true loop to restart itself if it does. I wouldn't run any "always on" script without looping, so I may be missing any instability. I'll add a line to log restarts for curiosity. My thoughts on the email body 1. I would prefer the prowl lim...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

I've been using the other gmail script. The only problem I've had with it is the first 3 letters of the sender's name is cut off. I like this script better as it produces a cleaner notification and even throws in the date and time, but haven't switched to this one because it doesn't send the body of...

Re: Prowl Gmail Python Script

Works perfectly for me on Slackware Linux and running it in a shell. Google actually released push mail and contacts/calendar sync today http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740 But using google's push email doesn't give you a notification popup, it's just a sound a...

Re: pworl curl

Macs use Applescript but my example was a BASH script. I don't know if it's worth it to you or if it would work the way you want it to, but you can install bash on a Mac.

That pretty much used up all my Mac knowledge.

I've never used a Mac so I won't be much help. Are you able to run the script at all? Does it give an error?

Re: pworl curl

What operating system are you using and what are you using to run curl? I need a script to do this exact same thing so let's do it. I use Linux and the BASH shell, so I hope this helps you. Let's start with a simple script like this: #! /bin/sh wx=`curl -s "http://mobile.weather.gov/port_mp_ns....

Re: what are people doing with custom notifications?

I just got Prowl last night and I forsee a lot of use. Using my home Linux PC I've set up scripts and cronjobs to get "push gmail" with the IMAP script found on this forum, send a notification if my home PC IP address changes (which happens sometimes with the cable company), and download a...
